Manifesto for Global Utopia

2024, INDEPENDENT PROJECT

If all of humanity - our history, mistakes, needs, and dreams - can be digested by AI’s omnipotent processor, what solution will we receive? I asked ChatGPT, if you were to write a manifesto explaining and guiding humanity towards the ideal world, what would this manifesto include? And so began a long query, documented in this book.

The Manifesto Tone

I instructed ChatGPT to write text in a manifesto tone: grounded and informed by examples and references, yet inspired and forward-looking, yet not overly poetic or dramatic.

For the tone, I was inspired by Julian Rosefeldt’s movie “Manifesto”, where Cate Blanchett reads 13 manifestos from the 20th century. The layout and typography is inspired by Yuval Noah Harari’s Sapiens.

Hand-made book of machine-intelligence content

The structure of the book resulted from what ChatGPT wanted such a manifesto to discuss and what I thought would be important for a human reader - ex. leisure, creativity, incentive, and labor in the proposed AI-powered utopian future.

ChatGPT envisioned a future powered by AI and technology to ensure transparency, optimize all aspects of life, from governance to education to spirituality, and support human fulfillment and ingenuity.

Reflecting this idea, the physical book prioritizes human craft. The leather cover is laser-engraved with my illustration - inspired by old book flourishes but with a whimsy of a speculated future. The book is bound with decorative binding.

The Manifesto concludes with my "Notes from the Author," where I describe my process, what ChatGPT is, ChatGPT's sources, and possible biases.

I end the manifesto hoping for a better tomorrow.
